My top 3 Tips to avoid sugar cravings:
Today is Halloween and I see those little mini candy bars everywhere. As a personal trainer and nutrition coach I have heard lots of Halloween confessionals and regrets over the years (some of those regrets have been my own). I don't want you to have to white knuckle it, suffer and feel guilty about it. I have listed my top 3 tips to do yourself a favour and not get caught in the cycle of sugar addiction and cravings. Plus I added an amazing sweet treat below!
What an amazing fall! The weather was gorgeous and the kids had a blast spending thanksgiving at the cottage, apple picking and dressing up on halloween. There were some milestones too! Raine started grade primary and Shea is in Grade 1. Needless to say there is a lot to be thankful for.

The way we perceive our bodies, our relationships, our finances or any other aspect of our lives will be the reality in which we live. Perhaps the biggest obstacle I have ever encountered is my thoughts. Most problems or turmoil I have suffered is due to perspective. A beautiful holistic energy coach once told me “No thought, no problem” It sounds so simple but it literally blew my mind. The concept is both powerful and terrifying (depending on your thought about the thought of course, oh man). This is not to say there are no challenges or struggles in life, but we choose how we let them affect us.
I had walked by the same big box of high protein pea pasta at Costco a few times and I finally decided to give it a try. As a vegan I love high protein pastas. I usually use a brand called Asian Explore (bulk barn), which is high protein, low fat and moderate carb, plus it taste good. But I liked the rotini shape of this brand and I like to try new things! I opted to make a classic pasta with sundried tomatoes and olives (plus some extra veggies and avocado ofcourse). It only took me about 15 minutes to make.
Have you ever felt like the harder you work the more you stayed the same? Or worse... the harder you work the further away from your goals you were? If this has happened to you, you are not alone. In fact, I am right there with you. I am telling you first hand that I have experienced the frustration of a plateau. A plateau isn't always defined by weight (sometimes we are already at a healthy weight or body fat %) sometimes a plateau means that you no longer reaping the same benefits you once were. You may have received amazing results from one type of exercises only stop seeing results or start reverting back. The body is clever and it adapts.
This takes 5-10 minutes to make and keeps me full for hours. I can go-go-go all morning and not have to worry about a snack after this for breakfast.
-1/2 Cup uncooked gluten free oats.
-1/2 a ripe banana.
-2-3 Tbsp of hemp hearts, chia seeds or flaxseed (or a little of each). -1 tbsp of natural nut butter.
Over ten years ago I got a tattoo on my ankle dramatically stating "Trust Self". I remember the day I impulsively marched up to that tattoo parlour. I had been lied to, I was devastated and broken hearted. Worse than the broken heart...I felt like I had deceived myself. How could I ever trust myself again? I was mad at myself for letting this happen, was I blind or stupid? I had all the warning signs, my intuition was desperately trying to get my attention. My gut was telling me the truth, but it wasn't the truth that I wanted to hear. So I ignored it.
