"My body is busy. My mind is not."
When I heard this quote from one of my favourite spiritual teachers Deepak Chopra, I immediately thought BINGO! That is exactly how I want to be! Chopra travels all over the world as an author, public speaker and spiritual leader, he is a busy man to say the least and I am sure he could feel stressed if he wanted to. Instead, when Oprah asked him how he handles being so busy he explained that while his body is busy traveling around the world, he mind is not busy, in his mind he is always at ease.
This is exactly what I have being working towards all year (remember I declared this the year of next level health and wellness). I love to be physically "busy". Teaching, connecting and coaching brings me joy, happiness, purpose and it is a creative outlet. On the other hand I don't want to feel maxed out, stressed or overwhelmed by my schedule. To go next level in any aspect of life you must gain control of your mind, recognizing chaos is created in our heads and although we can't control what happens in the outside world, we can control how I react and feel about it.
June seemed like the craziest month ever (in my mind anyway). The kids were finishing up school with lots of extra fun end of year events, we also had end of year dance recitals and of course summer planning was in full effect. During this chaotic time, I reminded myself of what my intensions for this year were. 2018 is about state of mind living with ease and managing my mind so I can accomplish each day with an effortless flow no matter what shows up. To build on this process I decided this summer I will focus on being present. Being present with the kids, with my husband, in my everyday routine. No matter how busy my schedule is, I want to find stillness and BE PRESENT. The ability to be in the moment affects all aspects of our lives, it affects our relationships, our happiness, our health and even our weight. Tuning into the moment stops us from escaping and retreating with our phones, with food or with a personal drama-anything to escape the present moment.
How I am on consciously working on this?
The most useful and necessary tactic I use to stay preset is mediation. If we face our thoughts, emotions and fears head on (ie: tuning into self) then we can let go. When we let our thoughts flow and face our fears, we do not need to escape. We already know whats there, we can start to live with ease and enjoy stillness (physical or mental) without feeling like we need to escape or avoid.
Facing our fears and truths allows us to realizes there is nothing to worry about or analyze as everything will happen exactly as it should. In fact what we resist persist, therefore worrying and fretting only makes our fears more likely to come true. Focus on what you have in the present moment (a lot more then many). Focus on the good and the more more good you will see. I have attached some pictures of how I am passing my summer days. Hope you are taking time to unwind as well Xo Anna.
